Alongside shared hosting packages, WHMAZ can sell VPS and dedicated server products. These usually need a different workflow, because most providers build a server manually rather than through a control panel API.
Setting up a server product
- Create the product under Packages as you would for shared hosting.
- Leave automatic provisioning disabled unless you have an API that can build the machine.
- Record the specification — CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth — in the description so it appears on the invoice and in the client portal.
- Set a setup fee if you charge for the initial build.
Managed versus unmanaged
Sell these as separate products rather than as an option on one product. It keeps the pricing clear on the invoice and makes it obvious in a support ticket which level of help the customer is entitled to. State plainly in each description what is and is not covered.
The manual activation workflow
- The order arrives and sits in Pending.
- You build the server and note its IP address and hostname.
- Open the order in the admin portal, record those details, and mark it Active.
- The customer sees the details in their portal and the renewal schedule begins.
Renewals and suspension
Renewal invoices are generated by the cron job in the same way as for shared hosting. Because there is no control panel to call, suspension for non-payment is a manual step for server products — check the overdue list regularly. See How the Dunning Ladder Works.
